On Thursday, August 28, 2025 Kasteel De Wittenburg opened its doors for a special double exhibition of father and son Spronken. The salons presented intimate bronze sculptures and drawings by Arthur Spronken, who died in 2018, while the gardens provided the backdrop for his son Caius’ monumental, never-before-seen sculptures. The exhibition is not only a tribute to two closely intertwined artists’ lives, but also a dialogue between generations. The whole thing offers more than a retrospective: it also sketches a prospect for the future of an artistic lineage that began with Arthur and takes shape again and again through Caius. Director of the Castle, Ralf Meppelder, welcomed the guests and introduced the speakers, outgoing minister and deputy prime minister Sophie Hermans and Irene Schreuder-Tjoa, co-founder of the Bioderma and Natural Skin Food brands. Schreuder expressed her thanks for the collaboration and for being there. Outgoing Minister Hermans opened the exhibition with an inspired speech in which she praised the importance of the exhibition, its artistic power and initiative. A total of fourteen works of art were exhibited, embedded among the stately trees and graceful paths of Kasteel De Wittenburg. The festive opening concluded with a dinner at the historic castle, where guests had the opportunity to chat afterward and further explore the exhibition.
The exhibition ‘Reflection’ can still be seen until next February 1 at De Wittenburg estate 1, 2244 BV in Wassenaar, website: www.wittenburg.nl
